The International Doll of the Month for March 2012 represents Ireland.
Here are some fun family activities to explore Irish culture:
1) Potato Printing!
Slice a potato in half lengthwise (this is best for adults to do) and use a cookie cutter to create a design. Dip the cut potato in tempera or acrylic paint and print the design on a tshirt or piece of construction paper. Potatoes represent a major cash drop in Ireland.
Check out this fun how-to from Martha Stewart Crafts.
2) Build a Bed Sheet Castle
Castles and Celtic culture play a large role in Irish folklore. Build a fun castle out of bed sheets and read some popular Irish stories such as:
Jamie O’Rourke and the Big Potato by Tommie dePaola
Irish Folk Tales for Children by Sharon Kennedy
