The Montessori Toddler Community meets the developmental needs of children ages 18 months to 2 ½ years. Children also complete their toilet training in this class. Children learn to be independent and confident, while developing fine motor skills and oral language. If ready for more challenging work, our Toddlers master introductory phonics, numbers, and science concepts in preparation for the Children’s House (ages 2 ½ – 6). During the day, students are served snacks, milk, and lemonade, and they have ample outdoor playtime.
A Day in the Toddler Community
Good Morning The Toddler is greeted at the front door by a Montessori guide and walks independently to the classroom. The child puts away her lunch box and joins the class for a group lesson.
The Montessori Work Cycle The teacher leads the class in the Pledge of Allegiance and discusses the date, the days of the week, and a special group lesson. Then, children are directed to begin the Montessori work cycle. Toddlers are encouraged to select their own activities, under the careful eye of their Montessori guide, and engage in hands-on lessons to develop concentration, independence, and self-reliance.
Recess Toddlers spend lots of time outside in our ½ acre backyard. They unleash their physical and creative energies by playing basketball, running races, and building forts.
Yummy in my Tummy During lunch, children practice skills in grace and courtesy and assert their independence. Children learn to use utensils, cups, and napkins appropriately without spilling any food. And if they spill, children learn to clean after themselves.
Bye Bye After lunch time, toddlers nap (some toddlers choose to rest). After waking up, they return to their Montessori work. Most children go home at the end of their Montessori program.
