What’s a spatulate?

In the Montessori classroom, primary students studied the various shapes of leaves and structure of plants.  Dr. Montessori found nature to be a great teacher and an accessible learning environment as young children were always exposed to flowers, trees, and grasses at home and in school.

Dr. Montessori developed puzzles for children to learn the classification of different leaves, helping them explore the natural world in a sensorial way.  In these photos, students classify leaves – like a spatulate – based on their geometry and explore day to day natural objects like Texas wildflowers and fruit.
